Kathy Kosins - Award-Winning Vocalist
A singular voice in the jazz and soul world, Kathy Kosins exemplifies the intersection of sophistication, emotional depth, and musical versatility. Her career spans decades of international performances, recordings, and collaborations, earning her critical acclaim and a devoted following.
Kosins’ latest single, “Auroras Light,” was named Most Played Vocalist on SiriusXM Watercolors and featured in multiple publications, including a July 2025 cover story in the UK magazine Blues and Soul. In 2022, her duet with Frank McComb, “I Gotta Pinch Myself” featuring Najee, was nominated Song of the Year at the SoulTracks Readers Choice Awards. Her 2023 reimagined single, “From A 2 B,” won Jazz Vocal Single of the Year from The Independent Broadcasters Alliance.
Kosins has also collaborated with renowned pianist and producer Bob Baldwin (“Let’s Rewind”), achieving multiple #1 positions on Smooth Jazz charts, the UK Soul Chart Top 30, and Indie Soul Top 30, with a new Baldwin/Kosins collaboration expected in 2026. Her work with bassist and producer Paul Randolph under the DetroitCentriX project continues to bring fresh, boundary-crossing soul-jazz to audiences worldwide.
Her sixth studio album, Uncovered Soul (Maristar), celebrates Kosins’ Detroit Motown roots and features her most intimate and expressive vocals yet, guided by longtime producer Kamau Kenyatta (Gregory Porter). The album reached #1 on the Official Indie Soul Chart, earning accolades from SoulTracks, Blues and Soul, Echoes Magazine, All About Jazz, Jazzwise, and PopMatters. Kosins has performed internationally on stages from Istanbul to the UK and made her BBC debut on The Robert Elms Show and an in-studio appearance on Jazz FM.
Kosins has shared the stage with many notable jazz and R&B artists, including Don Was, Gregory Porter, Terrance Blanchard, Gerald Clayton, Randy Brecker, Peabo Bryson, Bob Baldwin, The Rippingtons, and many more. She has also performed at major festivals and iconic venues, including Blue Note at Sea, Blue Note Beijing, and The Bach Dancing & Dynamite Society’s winter jazz series.
In addition to her music, Kathy Kosins is a visual artist, creating abstract acrylic paintings influenced by 1950s Cubism. Her work is displayed in private collections and galleries, and she often incorporates live painting into her performances, blending the visual and aural arts.
A past recipient of the Michigan Council for the Arts Jazz Composer of the Year award, Kosins has also received grants from Michigan’s ArtServe advocacy group. She shares her expertise through clinics and workshops, teaching performance skills and business strategies to over 200 colleges and universities across the USA.
